Volume 1, Issue 2 May 2007

Where did the time go?
Uh oh! It is the last day of the month and this May issue is just now getting to you! We apologize for getting this newsletter out so late and will do better starting next month. You will be getting the June issue soon so get ready for a lot of news coming your way!

2007 Conference Update
In the last issue, we announced our conference theme as being "From Death Row to Light Row". This is incorrect. The correct theme of our 2007 Conference will be From Death Row to Life Row. We apologize for the error. Our conference will be held from noon, Thursday, September 6th through noon, Saturday, September 8th at the Prison Fellowship headquarters in Leesburg, Virginia. We are almost ready to open up registration for our 2007 conference. We will give you more details on how to register for the conference in the June issue of our e-newsletter.

The "B" Dorm
Starting with this issue, we will be introducing to you our aftercare facility, Healing Hands Ranch, by telling you about our facilities. This month, we would like to tell you about our "B" dorm. We have 3 dorms and the "B" dorm is our middle sized dorm. It has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen with an eating/sitting area.

The Lord blessed us in a unique way recently. A man contacted us wanting to help us get Healing Hands Ranch ready for residents. We showed him the property and after visiting, he decided he wanted to remodel the "B" dorm at his own expense and labor. The bathroom and kitchen were gutted out and rebuilt with all new cabinets, plumbing fixtures and appliances. The floor was replaced with ceramic tile and hardwood floors. New blinds, light fixtures and door hardware was added. Now the "B" dorm is almost ready to take in new residents! Right now, the "B" is being used as the temporary offices of Deaf Prison Ministries Network until our main office building is finished -- more about that in the next e-newsletter!

More about our new Executive Director
In the last issue, we introduced to you our newly hired Executive Director, Scott DeLoach. We'd like to tell you the story of how Scott came to us. Scott was working for Alcatel-Lucent as a software enginner for the last 18 years. Scott has always known that he would someday go into the ministry full time, but he didn't know when or how that would happen. 8 years ago, Scott got involved in the Deaf prison ministry through Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church and made monthly trips to the Estelle Unit in Huntsville, Texas to minister to the 80+ Deaf men housed there. A year later, Scott started making monthly trips to the Dixon Correctional Insitute in Dixon, Illinois to minister to the 4+ Deaf men housed there. Over the last 8 years, Scott help start Deaf Prison Ministries Network and served as the board chairman. When the board invitied Scott to become its Executive Director, Scott left his job to go into the ministry full time knowing that this was truly his calling. Scott and his wife of nearly 17 years, Kathy and their four children will be relocating back Texas in early July to take part in this unique and exciting ministry for the Lord!

Your Support is Important to Us!
Operating Healing Hands Ranch costs Deaf Prison Ministries Network several thousands of dollars each month to cover overhead expenses. The Lord has clearly opened up the door to make this possible with the support of several people, churches and organizations. The cost of operating will continue to go up as we start taking in residents. Your financial support will make it possible for us to provide Deaf ex-offenders a place to live, a place to gain education and training and most importanly, a place to receive strong biblical values so they can successfuly re-integrate into society and not end up back in prison. Won't you prayerfully consider being a financial partner with us? You can make your tax-deductible contribution by clicking on one of the donation buttons at the bottom of this e-newsletter.
