Deaf Prison Minstries Network owns and operates the worlds first and only
halfway house for Deaf people on parole or probation. Our halfway
house is called
Healing Hands Ranch. Halfway houses are
an important step in reducing the recidivism rate among ex-offenders
while helping them return back into society. Until Healing Hands Ranch
came into existence, Deaf prisoners have had virtually no opportunity to live
in a fully accessible halfway house when they are released from prison.
Because of this, the recidivism rate among Deaf prisoners are higher than
average.
Deaf Prison Ministries Network purchased a former halfway house ministry
near Houston, Texas in December, 2006. After 8 months of renovations, Healing
Hands Ranch opened in August, 2007 and the first resident arrived on September
17, 2007.
Healing Hands Ranch is located in Willis, Texas which is approximately 20 miles from
the largest group of Deaf prisoners in the State of Texas where approximately
100 Deaf inmates are housed. This property is capable of housing up to 40
