2006 Conference - Bakersfield, California

Our 4th annual conference will be held at the Laurelglen Bible Church in Bakersfield, California on September 7, 8 and 9, 2006. Bakersfield, California is near the home of the largest group of Deaf prisoners in the State of California and we invite you to come and meet them!

This year's conference theme is Faith Step because 2006 is a big year for Deaf Prison Ministries Network as we take a step in faith as we grow and expand our ministry to reach out to the Deaf in prison for Christ. We've grown in two areas:

  • National Network: More people are becoming aware of Deaf Prison Ministries Network and have contacted us asking how they can become involved. We are slowly building up a network of key-point people to be our connection between the Deaf in Prison and in the local community. For more information on key-point people, see our organization structure.
  • Aftercare Facility: Deaf Prison Ministries Network has acquired a former halfway house facility in Texas and are in the process of converting it into the world's first aftercare facility exclusively for the Deaf! We're very excited about this much needed opportunity to help the Deaf as they are released from prison to make smooth transition back into society. For more information visit our aftercare facility webpage.

If you're wondering why we've choosen the theme name as Faith Step instead of the more well known term "Step of Faith", the answer is quite simple... in American Sign Language, "Step of Faith" is literally signed as "Faith" + "Step". If you really think about it, Faith Step makes more sense because after all, faith always comes before you make that first step!
